Club Information

This club was organized in 1946, its objective being "to do all things to promote the popularity of, to encourage the ownership of, to better the standard of, to advise on the upkeep of, and to promote the welfare of ....... the Saint Bernard." Membership in the club is open to all who are in accord with these objectives; ownership of a Saint Bernard is not a condition of membership. Our membership includes individual pet owners, breeders, judges. Interests range from the care of the house pet to breeding, showing, obedience training, and so forth. We publish regularly an informative bulletin about club and breed affairs, THE SAINT SENTINEL, which contains both news and feature articles. We exchange publications with other Saint Bernard organizations throughout the United States so that our members may have a broad view of Saint Bernard news and activity all over the country. We hold meetings four, five, or six times a year at the house of various members. Among our projects are an annual "Specialty Show" which draws together the largest number of Saint Bernards of any dog show in this part of the country ... practice sessions which include help in earning show and ring procedure ... informal "breed & obedience matches"...The Day in the Snow With the Saints... study of the Saint Bernard Standard, etc. This is an active, growing club -- one of the largest Saint Bernard organizations now in existence. We'll welcome your application for membership.

Obedience SHOWMAN'S CUP Regulations

1. The Obedience Showman's Cup is awarded annually to the owner-handler who has compiled during the year the best record of skill and persistence in bringing Obedient St. Bernards before the dog show viewing public. Competition will be on a calendar year basis beginning January 1.

2. Competition is open to any person who is a member of the Club at the time the award is made.

3. Points toward the Cup are gained by the handling of one or more St. Bernards owned by the handler or a member of his immediate family; that is, parents, children, siblings, spouse.

4. In the course of the year, the competing handler may credit himself with points gained with a dog which he normally handles, when handled by a substitute who is a member of his immediate family, or by a partner who shares ownership of the dog being handled, provided that such points do not exceed 1/3 of his total.

5. Winning of the cup for three consecutive years permits permanent possession.

6. The number of points at any one show is based on the highest rating gained by the handler's dog or any one of his dogs. The competing handler must have handled his dog at the level at which points are claimed except that if he handled the dog in the class and later has a conflict between two dogs showing at the same time, he may secure assistance and still claim the higher score.

7. Each competing handler presents his point record to the Club secretary as soon as possible after the end of the year, but not later than 30 days prior to the annual banquet. The three highest point totals are then posted for examination by all who wish to do so. After errors, if any, have been pointed out and corrected, the highest point total is declared the winner. In the event of a tie, possession of the Cup shall be divided among the winners on an equal basis during the year.

8. No one is declared a winner who has less than 50 points. If no one has 50 points, the Cup remains in the custody of the Club secretary until the following year.
